As Jensi and her pastor were wrapping up their time at the Donut Shop, Jensi said, “This conversation has been really helpful. But I bet we’ve only scratched the surface of what the Bible says about welcoming others. I’m hungry to know more. Could we meet again, and maybe invite others to join us?”
“That’s a good idea,” said the Pastor. “There are several key Bible stories and passages we can talk about. And more ears listening to the stories will open them to us in new ways.”
So the following week, they met again, this time joined by Jensi’s great aunt Elizabeth who, like Jensi, is a member of St. Mary Lutheran Church; by Matt and Clint, a married couple who are members of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church; and by Ron, who is not a Christian, but who drops in occasionally at St. Mary’s.
The Pastor and Jensi shared the story of what had led to the creation of the group, and invited the others to say a few words about themselves. Over the next few days we’ll hear what each said.
Give us people, Lord, with whom we can freely, openly, and lovingly talk about things that matter. Amen
